Originally opened in 1892, Lithia Park was originally designed as a functioning entertainment spot for the up-and-coming Chautaqua Society. Though only comprising eight acres when it was first founded, today Lithia Park sprawls over 92 acres, featuring attractions like the century-old "Tree of Heaven" and beautiful native alders and oaks. The park stretches throughout the southern area of downtown along the Ashland Creek, backing onto the Elizabethan Stage, popular for its role in hosting plays for the Oregon Shakespeare Festival.
